Some of the Civil Society Organization (CSOs) led by Chairperson for Forum for National Development (FND) Bright Kampaundi have reported the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over organized crime against humanity.
This has been disclosed in a letter dated July 31, 2019 jointly signed by Bright Kampaundi, Fyson Chodzi, Unandi Banda, Luther Mambala, Philip Kamangira, Kulimbamtima Chiotcha and Moses Chione.
In the letter, the said activists are blaming Lazarus Chakwera, Dr. Saulos Chilima, Timothy Mtambo and Gift Trapence of HRDC over violence that marred the ongoing demonstrations aimed at forcing Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Jane Ansah to resign.
“We write this letter to you inform you ICC and the rest of the World that acts of violence are escalating in Malawi in a guise of exercising human rights, the perpetrators need to be charged and face the mighty law,” reads in part the letter.
The letter has since attracted mixed reactions with many criticizing the said activists.
