A 27-year old man has died after he locked himself up in a motor vehicle on August 1st, 2019 at Chiweta hills in Rumphi district.
The deceased has been identified as Robert Milanzi of Chipo village, traditional authority Nsabwe in Thyolo district.
He was working as an assistant driver to Frank Mwangonde aged 40 of Mlale village, traditional authority Kyungu in Karonga district.
“On July 31st, 2019 the deceased and the driver were returning from Tanzania and were going to Lilongwe in a Fuso Fighter motor vehicle Registration number TO 30 but had a break down at Chiweta hills.” Insp Henry Mnjere narrated
They agreed to engage the services of an expert to fix the problem hence the driver went to Mzuzu to hire a mechanic.
He came back the following day.
Upon arrival at the said place, he found the deceased locked up in the vehicle.
“He knocked several times to awake the deceased so as to open the door but surprisingly he got no response.” Mnjere added
Feeling suspicious, he reported the matter to Chiweta police unit and immediately officers went to the scene and found the man dead after they broke the door to open the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the body has been taken to Rumphi hospital for postmortem.
