Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has seized over 100 bales of assorted second-hand clothes in Limbe Township in the commercial capital Blantyre.

MRA’s Head of Corporate Affairs Steven Kapoloma confirmed of the development in a statement posted on the tax collecting body facebook page.

According to Kapoloma, owners of the said bales evaded tax.

“We have seized a consignment of over 100 bales of assorted second-hand clothes in Limbe, Blantyre. Some bales had no EFD receipts while others had EFD receipts with lower amounts than what is claimed to have been paid,” reads in part the statement.

The acts of tax evasion by companies and individuals have been on the rise recently due to exorbitant taxes introduced by the current regime.

Recently Castel Malawi Limited threatened to pull out of the business in the country due to high taxes in the country.
