President Peter Mutharika has opened state house doors To meet a quasi-religious body Public Affairs Committee (PAC) to find solutions to post May 21 elections crisis.
Both PAC and state house have confirmed saying the meeting will take place today in Blantyre at Sanjika Palace.
According to Presidential press secretary Mgeme Kalirani, the president has shown commitment to meet and have talks with the religious body delegation at 2 pm.
PAC executive director Robert Phiri has also confirmed that the president has accepted to meet with them.
“It is true that the president has opened doors for us,” said Phiri.
PAC mediation team comprises members from the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM), Quadra Muslim Association of Malawi (QMAM) and Malawi Council of Churches (MCC).
PAC is led by Arch Bishop Luke Thomas Msusa, who is the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Blantyre of the Catholic Church.
PAC embarked on a dialogue initiative in a bid to pacify the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the opposition parties disputing the May 21 tripartite elections results, especially in the presidential race.
The first level of dialogue was with United Transformation Movement (UTM) party President Saulos Chilima and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera.
PAC is looking forward to hold talks with the leadership of Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) which continues to organize nationwide demonstrations to force chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Jane Ansah to resign over what the grouping alleges that she mismanaged May 21 elections.
