Management of the Kabumba Hotel in Salima has refuted rumours hovering on the social media that Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah is hiding at the hotel, saying the rumours are untrue.

Since the outcome of the May 21 polls which saw President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika being declared winner, the country has experienced series of protest led by Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson Timothy Mtambo.

HRDC has been pressing for the immediate resignation of Ansah for failing to manage the May 21 tripartite election.

During this period Jane Ansah has been in hiding for fear for her life and this week rumours went viral on the social media that she is hiding at Kabumba hotel.

But management of the hotel trashed the allegations, saying the rumours are baseless.

“It is unfortunate to learn of the false allegations circulating in the social media that Dr. Jane Ansah SC is at Kabumba Hotel.

We would like to categorically refute the false allegations. Justice Dr. Jane Ansah, SC has never been at Kabumba Hotel since its inception and she is not at Kabumba Hotel,” reads in part the statement.

Meanwhile the whereabouts of Ansah is not known at the moment.
