The newly appointed Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Commander Lieutenant General Vincent Nundwe has officially been handed over the sword.

The ceremony took place on Thursday at Kamuzu Barracks in the capital Lilongwe where Inspector General of Police Rodney Jose was in attendance.

Nundwe received the sword from the outgoing MDF commander Griffin Supuni Phiri who is currently serving as President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s advisor on security matters.

Speaking after receiving the sword Nundwe said the MDF will continue discharging its duties professionally.

“MDF will continue discharging duties in a constitutional way.

“We need to do things the way they are supposed to be done without political interference,” said Nundwe.

Since his appointment in June, Nundwe has received much recommendation from the general public for discharging duties according to the rule of law, a trait that lacked in General Supuni-Phiri.
