Police in Phalombe are keeping in custody a 28 year old teacher for allegedly defiling a 14 year old primary school girl.
Phalombe Police spokesperson Innocent Moses confirmed the development identifying the suspect as Chrispin Kamwendo.

According to Moses, the incident happened on July 31, 2019 at Mumbuwa village, TA Jenala in Phalombe district.
Moses said the victim went to her teacher’s house at around 9 PM in order to call her aunt who stays in Mulanje using Kamwendo’s mobile phone but she could not be reached.
He said the girl went back and promised to come later in the night.
At around midnight, the victim returned to the suspect’s house whose wife had gone to her home village and the suspect took advantage to defile the girl.
He added that the victim revealed everything, a development that prompted her mother to report the matter to police.
The victim was referred to the hospital where it was established that the girl had really been defiled.
The suspect will soon appear in court to answer defilement charge.
Kamwendo hails from Kalimba village, Traditional Authority (TA) Malemia in Zomba district.
