The State, through Malawi Police Service (MPS) Head of Prosecutions, Napier Thomson Chafikana, has requested two weeks to look into files of activists, Macdonald Sembereka and Gift Trapence, who were arrested on allegations of fraud mid July.
The two were arrested on charges of fraud related to criminal accounts concerning alleged abuse of donor funds and were later granted bail by the Lilongwe Magistrates Court amid mounting pressure for authorities to drop the charges against them.
Chafikana who is representing the state on the case asked the court for more time to properly look at the files arguing that he was served on the same day.
Following the prayer by Chafikana, the chief residents Magistrate court sitting in Lilongwe adjourned the case.
This has been necessitated to give room to a new prosecutor who has just joined the case to have ample time of scrutinizing the case files.
The case will resume on the 11th of September this year.
