Members of Apostolic Church in Ndirande Stormed the township’s police station demanding an immediate release of one of their members for allegedly abducting a 13 year old girl.

The suspect identified as Zakey Mapira was charged with abduction of a 13 year old girl and failing to provide necessities for the girl.

Reacting to the development the Apostolic church members dressed in their usual dress code raided the police station carrying placards demanding the release of their member.

They kept chanting to police officers “Holy ghost fire!”

Commenting on the matter, Ndirande police station publicist Edna Mzingwitsa said they managed to disperse the angry church members who later on promised to come back for a vigil.

According to Mzingwitsa, Mapira was arrested for allowing marriage of a 13 year old girl and his 22 years old son without the consent of the girl’s parents.

“The girl who is pregnant was being kept in the church’s tent and her parents were denied a chance to be taking to the hospital for antenatal care,” she said.

Meanwhile Mapira’s son who has defilement charges to answer is at large.

Mapira, 42, hails from Chalinga village Traditional Authority Changata in Thyolo district.
