ZAMBIA – Malawian witch doctor has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court accused of murdering a Zambia National Service (ZNS) counsellor at Makeni Clinic.
29-year-old Abu Phiri who stays and operates in 10 Miles area appeared before Magistrate Martha Miti yesterday alongside his co-accused Saviour Daka 30, a farmer of Eight Miles area.
The duo had the charge of murder explained to them and said they understood.
Magistrate Miti told them that they will continue to appear before her for mention while awaiting instructions from Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for their committal to the High Court for trial.
It is alleged that on July 12, 2019 Phiri and Daka murdered Clare Namutenda.
On July 14 Namutenda 42, was reported to have gone missing by her husband Maybin Mundengo, a Zambia National Service Colonel of Chalala area.
Colonel Mundengo, told police that his wife had gone missing the previous day after informing him that she was going to attend night prayers at an unknown Church.
Police had instituted investigations in the matter and two suspects Phiri and Daka were apprehended and the motor vehicle, a Toyota Van Guard which was being driven by Namutenda was recovered.
The foreign witch doctor was found in possession of Namutenda’s car and the number plates of the vehicle had allegedly been removed by Phiri.
Police discovered Namutenda’s body dumped at a grave yard in Kabangwe area, with deep cuts on the forehead.
