President Peter Mutharika has told Malawi congress Party (MCP) Leader Lazarus Chakwera to respect the presidency.

Mutharika made the remarks in Mangochi after he commissioned the six warships at the Marine Department of the Malawi Defense Force (MDF).

When ddelivering his speech, Mutharika accused Chakwera of ordering his Members of Parliament (MPs) to disrespect him when he was presenting the State of Nation Address (SONA).

“Revend Chakwera I don’t care if you do not respect me, but please respect the presidency,” Mutharika said.

Aftermath May 21 elections when Malawi electoral Commission (MEC) declared Mutharika winner of the disputed elections his presidency has been receiving criticism from different stakeholders including his competitors.

During the opening of Parliament Mutharika experienced an embarrassment moment as opposition legislators respected his presence by booing him.
