Former Zambian President Rupia Banda has been approached to mediate in the current political turmoil in the country.

The efforts to involve Banda has been instituted by the Institute for Policy Interaction whose Executive Director is a vocal political commentator Rafiq Hajat, following the May 21 disputed presidential polls.

Hajat reached to this conclusion as dialogue efforts by former President of the country Bakili Muluzi and the Public Affairs Committee proved futile.

Hajat further added that local mediators are compromised and perceived as untrustworthy by the public.

Following May 21 tripartite elections the country has been unrest following criticism from different stakeholders who are not pleased with the outcome of the disputed elections.
