Police in Mangochi have arrested three district council accounts officers who are suspected to have swindled about K60 million from government coffers.
Mangochi Police spokesperson, Roderick Maida, has confirmed the development.
According to Maida, District Commissioner for Mangochi Moses Chimphepo filed an official complaint to the law enforccers about the alleged theft.
The three have been identified as Gift Kamunga, John Nyondo and Davie Kasanthula.
On Friday last week, government ordered investigations into the alleged misappropriation of the money, after the council’s new director of finance discovered irregularities when doing reconciliations.
