Following frequent travels of the country’s vice president Everton Chimulirenji, a political commentator George Phiri has said he believes that this could be a deliberate move to groom him for the highest office.

Since the 21st May polls, Chimulirenji has been representing president Mutharika at various meetings abroad.

This has caused speculation over President Mutharika’s physical ability to attend the events, hence his delegation to the vice president.

Other critics are attributing the development to the current political impasse.

Currently, Chimulirenji is in Japan attending the Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

Aftermath of may 21 tripartite elections Mutharika has not been showing himself to the public as people in the country are saying not to recognize his presidency.

United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader Saulos Chilima and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera are challenging the presidency of Mutharika in court.
