The country’s only presidential independent candidate during the 2019 tripartite polls Reverend Hardwick Kaliya has cleared himself from the widespread allegations that he has joined the ruling democratic progressive party(DPP).
Speaking during the rally which the DPP southern region committee organized in Blantyre, the confident-speaking Kaliya said he had no intention of whatsoever of joining either DPP or any other political party in the country only that he wanted to stand for the truth and denounce the violent demonstrations in the country.
“In a country which upholds the judicially, it is a contempt of court of law to comment on the cases in court. But its high time that we learn to concede defeat in a race and put away whatever grudge against those who won,” said Kaliya.
“I have not joined DPP and have no intention of whatsoever of joining any political party in the country. But as a peace loving Malawian, I have to stand up for the truth and join the calls of condemning the act of organizing violent demonstrations on the pretext of constitutional rights.”
Kaliya said as the independent aspirant, he had no boundaries of speaking against or in favour of any issue of public interest in the country.
“I don’t have any side. Anyone or party can invite me to speak at any political rally provided it is organized for the sake of the common goal,” said Kaliya.
Kaliya also urged Malawians to practice love peace and unity regardless of political, ethnic group and religious differences.
DPP southern region governor Charles Mchacha condemned members of the opposition political parties such as the Malawi congress party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) for being the perpetrators of violent demonstrations rocked the country under the disguise of HRDC.
“We noted that HRDC is clean but those political party members joined them in demonstrators are those who perpetuate violence. We therefore call upon Mtambo and Tranpence to make their names clean by no longer involve them in the demonstrations,” said the highly charged Mchacha.
According to Mchacha, the members of the opposition political parties knew the truth that they failed in the electoral polls and that they could win their electoral case in court of law, hence wanted to frustrate the current government.
“As a party, we are not condemning the demonstrations per se as this is a constitution right, but we recommend the peaceful demonstrations only,” he said
Mchacha said the ‘thank you ‘rally marked the beginning of such rallies lined up for the 54 constituencies in the southern region aimed at thanking the constituencies for electing members and president of the rulling DPP.
He also urged members of his party to open the door for other new members to join the party as their open door policy.
The governor also declared southern region a no go zone area for demonstrations. “If these violent demonstrations continue, more especially intimidating our members, then we will fight back. This will be a total chaos in our peace loving country.”
Director for youth in the party, Yona Mlotha condemned some chiefs in the southern region for being loyal to opposition parties; a development which he said was responsible for derailing the development initiatives in the region.
“Surely, with this development, then it’s better for us to work with those leaders who are very loyal to our party for the successful developments in the country,” Mlotha said
