Police in Nairobi have launched investigations into incident where fake police officers run away with KSh 72 million from cash-on-transit van and ATM in Nairobi West area.
The G4S officers had reportedly collected money from their headquarters and were hoping to deposit it at the StanChart Bank at Nairobi West shopping.
However, no sooner had they reached the bank and load the cash at the ATM machine, three armed robbers in police uniform jumped out of two vehicles and demanded them to hand over 13 money bags.
The fake police officers also made some withdrawals from the same automated machine.
Even though they robbers had been trailing them, the victims thought they were genuine police officers sent to offer normal transit services as had been the norm. Unconfirmed reports indicated detectives have recorded statement from G4S security manager Bernard Apidi.
