Chewa Heritage Foundation (Chefo) has denounced the establishment of a parallel grouping trading under the banner Bwalo la Achewa Foundation, describing the development as suspicious and rebellious.
Addressing the media at its headquarters in Lilongwe on Thursday, Chefo executive members led by its Secretary General Richard Mdyetseni said they have noted with reservations the approval and impending launch of Bwalo la Achewa foundation on September 7, 2019 in Dowa.
They said Chefo is the only Malawi Chewa representative group sanctioned by the head of the Chewa tribe, Gawa Undi.
Mdyetseni said the impending launch of Bwalo la Achewa Foundation is a confusion aimed at bringing conflict among the Chewas, rebellion to tribal authority, threat to national unity as well as social development.
The Chefo executive members have since appelled to government and all stakeholders to desist from approving or sanctioning such groupings which they said aim at promoting conflict in particular ethnic groups.
