Organizers of Anti-Ansah demonstrations Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) have expressed their satisfaction with Parliamentary Affairs Committee meeting on its protests.
HRDC Chairperson, Timothy Mtambo said the grouping hopes that PAC, which recommends hiring and firing of public officers, will help them as they continue pushing for resignation of the MEC Chairperson.
PAC Chairperson Collins Kajawa says issues presented before the committee by HRDC require some investigations.
The meeting was arranged by PAC to give room to the organizers of Anti-Ansah demonstrations Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) to justify their calls for Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Justice Jane Ansah to step down.
HRDC has been organizing demonstrations nationwide calling for Ansah’s resignation arguing she failed to manage May 21 tripartite elections.
Despite calls from different stakeholders, Ansah has remained adamant from stepping down saying it is only the court that can determine her fate.
Just few days ago, president Peter Mutharika, made it clear that Ansah will not step down saying the elections were free fair and credible adding that international bodies also commended that the pols were successful.
HRDC has vowed not to relent from holding demonstrations until Ansah steps down.
