National Bank of Malawi Plc has distanced itself from messages circulation on social media especially Whatsapp demanding account and phone details of customers as part of the Know Your Customers (KYC) procedure, saying the information is fake.
Recently many Malawians including National Bank of Malawi customers have been receiving messages from unknown people posing as officials from the bank demanding account details and phone numbers of the said customers.
But in a statement released on September 5, 2019, the Bank has distanced itself from the said message and the bank has urged its customers to disregard it.
“National Bank of Malawi Plc would like to disassociate itself from the messages that are circulating on Whatsapp and other social media platforms requesting our customers to provide their account details and phone numbers as a KYC procedure.
“Please disregard those messages and do not share details. The Bank will be held liable any fraud related losses due to disclosure of personal information,” reads in part the statement.
Meanwhile it is not known as to whether someone has been robbed through these messages.
