The government of Malawi through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has asked ex-diplomats to return number plates of the vehicles they were using in countries where they were serving as Malawi diplomats.
Government has set September 30, 2019 as the deadline, failing which government will instruct the Malawi Police Service and the Road Traffic Directorate to impound the said vehicles.
This has been disclosed in a statement from the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation made available to faceofmalawi reporter.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, would like advise all former Malawi Diplomats in the country to return the foreign diplomatic number plates of the vehicles they were using in countries where they were serving as Malawi diplomats. The diplomatic number plates should be returned to the Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation by 30th September, 2019.
“Failure to comply with this notice, any vehicle bearing a foreign diplomatic number plate will be impounded by the Malawi Police Service and/ or the Road Traffic Directorate,” reads in part the statement.
