BLANTYRE – Police at Manase in Blantyre on September 9, 2019 recovered a fire arm from the house of an ex-police officer within Manase township.
The police detectives received a tip from the community that the suspect was keeping the said fire arm in his house located at Sumani village traditional authority Somba in Blantyre.
Follow up was made and search conducted in the said house led the law enforcers to recover the prohibited weapon a Star Pistol serial number 1071406 with a magazine of 4 rounds of live ammunition which was concealed in a shoe and placed under the bed.
“This was happening while the suspect had already bolted after sensing danger leaving behind his 16 year old niece.
During the search,the officers recovered other property suspected to have been stolen such as one LG Plasma television, one DSTV Decoder, one upright fridge and a mattress.” Sub-Inspector Augustus Nkhwazi narrated.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the ex-police officer whose service number used to be A5252 Damiano Nkhata born on October 4, 1977 and hails from Kazombo village traditional authority Kaomba in Kasungu.
The police call upon all those with information on the whereabouts of the said suspect to inform the police at Manase or any police facility in the country.
If arrested, Nkhata would be charged with being found in possession of a prohibited weapon contravening the Fire Arms Act.
