Organizers of Anti-Ansah demonstrations, Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has presented their petition to parliament on their demands to have Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Jane Ansah dismissed or resign.

Speaking during the delivery of the petition, HRDC chairperson Timothy Mtambo said they have lost hope with Capital Hill saying they are never helped as they needed.

According to Mtambo they have been presenting their petitions to Capital Hill but their voice is never heard, hence opting Parliament, hoping that parliamentarians will hear their cry.

“On behalf of Malawians of good will in whose behalf you represent in this August House, we surrender this petition believing that their voice shall form substratum of your discussions on the topical issues of national interest,” Mtambo said.

He added; “We thank you and believe that our petition will be given the attention and priority it deserves”

The Coalition wants parliament to intervene in their calls for the resignation of MEC Chairperson, Justice Dr. Jane Ansah and the entire Commission on allegations that they mismanaged the May 21 elections.
