Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is the second petitioner in the ongoing Presidential polls case has said he is in court to seek for the truth and not President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s seat.

Chakwera said this on Thursday during his first day of cross examination by Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale who is representing the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

While admitting that this is his last chance to stand as Presidential hopeful for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Chakwera ruled out that as the motive behind his move to challenge the outcome of the May 21 polls.

“We are here to seek for the truth and nothing else,” said Chakwera when responding to Kaphale’s question.

The Court cautioned Kaphale on several times over demeaning statement he made while cross-examining Chakwera.

Meanwhile the case continues today.
