At least 98 inmates from Zomba Maximum prison have graduated in Theology Course on Friday, September 20.
The course which was offered in coordination with Mahanaim Bible College, had financial support from International Youth Fellowship.
Speaking during the presentation of certificates to the graduates, Chief Commissioner of Prisons Madam Grace Wandika Phiri said the ceremony was an indication that Prison department is committed in transforming lives of inmates.
“The graduation ceremony was a clear testimony that Prison Department is committed in dedicating all its efforts in reformation and rehabilitation programs aimed at transforming inmates into productive citizens of the land who can add value to the national development,” Phiri said.
Prime to the first ever graduation ceremony was the ordination of the three inmates as pastors by Dr. Ki Sung Kim who is the IYF Director of Police and Corrections.
The ceremony was graced by Hon. Minister of Homeland Security, Hon. Nicholas Dausi, MP.
Several activities including performances by both Malawi Prisons Brass and Strings Bands and musical performance by Gracious Performance of “Uthenga Wabwino” fame from Korea spiced up the event.
