President for United Transformation Movement (UTM) Saulos Chilima has appealed to government to treat the matter of Ebola with urgency due to the outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

In his statement available to Faceofmalawi, Chilima has urged the Ministry of Health and all appropriate agencies to do the needful and act swiftly to come up with a clear, comprehensive and robust preparedness and response plan to this emergency so that it does not become a potential crisis in Malawi.

“We all know that our boarders in the vicinity of the region are intertwined, our trading links are brisk and that there is high mobility as globalization escalates. These above factors and more have therefore, compelled us to submit this proposition with the belief that doing so will save Malawi not only from potential devastation but safeguard the citizens from panic and being victims of fake news,” reads the statement.

Chilima in his statement has also stressed that if the plans are already in place, there is a need to revisit them with a broad based spectrum of stakeholders to make them robust and agile as well as articulating the road map for implementation.

Chilima is the first petitioner in the on-going presidential election case as he is seeking nullification of the presidential results in court.
