Police in Kasungu have arrested 16 bicycle operators as suspects in the protests that took place on Friday.
According to police spokesperson Harry Kamwaza, the bicycle operators broke offices for Kasungu municipality.
Among 16, 12 are suspected to have broken into offices stealing assorted items while 4 are suspected to be the ones who started the protests.
Officer for Kasungu municipality said that they are still checking and finding out how much was destroyed during the fracas.
“They are still checking and still counting the number of items destroyed because the bicycle operators’ have damaged a lot of things,” said Kamwaza.
The bicycle operators demonstrated because they were against authority’s decision to start paying a tax of K1000.
