In India,A schoolgirl scrawled a heartbreaking apology on the door to her home as she was taken away after it was claimed she had been raped by 30 men over two years.

The message – “Sory Amma” (“sorry mother”)  – was penned across the entrance to the two-room apartment after the girl, 12, had told a counsellor she had been repeatedly raped by different men, including her father’s friend.

Despite revealing the extent of her alleged trauma in the session at her school, just 500 metres from her parents’ rented accommodation, the counsellor was shocked at how guilty the girl felt about not contributing to the family’s finance.

“She started crying when asked about what was going on at home,” she told the Times of India.

The alleged rapes happened in Kerala’s Malappuram district, in India.

“She said her family, including a sick grandmother, was in dire need of money and that they hadn’t even been able to pay rent. She was worried that the family would be in deeper financial crisis if her father was taken into custody,” she continued.

She said the girl didn’t even recognise that she was being abused.

The girl claimed she was first raped by her father’s friend, who gave the family money, before she says many others did the same.

It is also claimed in local media that the girl’s father forced her mother into prostitution.

The girl’s statement was recorded before a magistrate on Sunday, and a medical examination confirmed she had been raped, Tirurangadi’s sub inspector Noushad Ibrahim said.

Three people, including the girl’s father, were arrested. Two others have been booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences act and the Indian Penal Code.

Deputy superintendent of police in Malappuram, PP Shamsu, said the search is still on for the remaining accused.

The family first settled in the area five years ago, according to local media.

Some neighbours claim they were aware “something questionable” was going on with the family.

“We often heard the little girl crying and shouting at night. We saw men coming to the house,” a 47-year-old woman told the TOI.

It is also claimed the girl often skipped school.

The child’s mother has denied the allegations and says it is a conspiracy, calling for her daughter to be returned.
