ZAMBIA – The police in Mambwe district in Zambia have arrested the local residents who decided to abduct eight people, including two members of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife.

The incident occurred last Friday when the officers together with several local scouts were conducting a foot patrol along the Mwanjiri stream.

“Whilst conducting their patrols, they were abducted by eight villagers,” Eastern Province police commissioner Luckson Sakala stated confirming the case.

While being tied up, one of the victims managed to secretly send an emergency text message to a nearby police station calling for help. The Mambwe police rushed to the scene, rescued the group and arrested the abductors.

The perpetrators are now in custody awaiting their first court hearing.
