Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has closed down 32 filling stations across the country for selling substandard fuel.

MERA’s Chief Executive Officer Collins Magalasi confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter.

According to Magalasi, some service stations have also been closed for not providing proper health friendly facilities within the stations which posed health risks to customers.

The closure of the 32 filling stations, comes weeks after the Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining honourable Bintony Kutsaira, blasted some filling station in Lilongwe, and warned them that failure to comply with standard set by MERA will result in closure.
