Duncan Mwapasa will today know his fate as to whether the National Assembly will confirm him as Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service or not.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika appointed Mwapasa a month ago to replace Rodney Jose’s whose term of office expired.

His appointment attracted criticisms from all corners with many describing him as one of the cadets for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

On Wednesday, opposition political parties refused to discuss and confirm his appointment accusing Leader of Government in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa of flouting procedures in bringing the issue for debate in the chamber.

The issue led to suspension of proceedings in the house as both side could not agree on one thing.

Meanwhile it is yet to be seen if the house will confirm Mwapasa’s appointment.
