Government through the ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has reversed its decision of relocating vendors along the road to designated markets.
The communication considering the development has been made in a press statement seen by Faceofmalawi reporter which is directed to Chief Executive Officers and District Commissioners.
“Reference is made to my earlier communication on the exercise to relocate vendors along the road to designated places,” reads part of the statement.
In the statement signed by the Secretary for the ministry Charles Kalemba cited current political situation as the main reason prompted the ministry to reach at the decision.
“I wish to advise that due to the current political tension that the country is experiencing, the minister has redirected that the exercise of relocating vendors to designate places should be put on hold until further notice.
Yesterday, vendors in Blantyre had running battles with the police who were trying to remove vendors from the roads.
