Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has warned police authorities against shielding their officers in the Nsundwe sexual violence scandal.

MHRC is also set to institute its inquiry into allegations that some police officers assigned to restore peace in the area sexually abused women and girls.

The incident happened on October 8, when political riots erupted and a police officer was stoned to death by an angry mob.

The NGO Gender Coordination Network also demanded the intervention of President Peter Mutharika in the matter.

MHRC Executive Secretary, David Nungu is hopeful that justice will prevail.
