Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has said it is weighing options on what it has to do regarding Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC)’s decision to hold by-elections in Lilongwe South constituency and Matenje ward in Kasungu.
HRDC member Luke Tembo who sat in as the Acting vice chairperson for HRDC during the press briefing today said Malawians still do not have confidence in MEC that it can hold credible by-elections.
However, he said HRDC sees it not the right option to stop MEC from holding by-elections in Lilongwe and Kasungu saying that doing so would mean infringing on people’s rights to chose a leader of their choice.
