The truck drivers’ national wide strike has entered the second day raising fears of fuel shortage in the country.

The truck drivers are demanding a pay hike from the current MK35, 000 to not less than MK200,000 to be in line with SADC region.

According to the drivers, Malawi drivers are less paid in the SADC region hence the strike.

On Monday, the drivers started going to every transport company to force drivers to join the sit-in.

The association’s leaders say they received a tip that some transporters had locked up their drivers as a way of barring them from taking part.

The association is demanding salaries starting from 300 to 500 thousand kwacha, just like their counterparts in the SADC region.

Meanwhile the truck drivers have turn down government call to call-off the strike.
