Despite what seemed to be a fruitful meeting between truck drivers representatives and government officials yesterday, truck drivers in Lilongwe are today continuing with the strike to demand pay hike.

The truck drivers have been detaining any vehicle from three tonnes and above. Hundreds of vehicles have since been parked at Kanengo.

The drivers have also threatened to detain each and every vehicle from tomorrow unless their grievances are addressed.

During yesterday’s meeting, the truck drivers and government officials settled for the minimum wage of K60 000 for ordinary truck drivers and K140 000 for fuel tanker drivers.

In the picture, drivers at Kanengo are demanding that their grievances be addressed by today or else they will force all vehicles out of the road.
