Women rights campaigners are set to display their anger against sexual assault of girls and women of Nsundwe tomorrow; Friday.
Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to Malawi Holly Tett has asked the Police to institute an independent investigation into the alleged sexual assault of women and girls by Police in Nsundwe.
The coordinator for the demonstrations Joseph Njala said facilitators of the solidarity march – Gender Coordination Network were wining-up preparations for demonstrations.
According to him, gender rights activists were upset with the reports hence their action.
“As a matter of fact all we are demanding is justice, what happened was unacceptable and very unfortunate and also embarrassing considering it involves Police,” said Njala.
Demonstrations aside; he said, the advocates will also present a petition to President Peter Mutharika to address the matter in his capacity as head of security forces in the country.
On the other hand British High Commissioner to Malawi – Tett has called for an independent investigation saying such an undertaking will help restore faith between the Police service and civilians.
Tett said it was disheartening to note that law enforcers were being reported among perpetrators of the vice.
