A former deputy primary school head teacher sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting eight pupils has appealed the sentence.

Julius Mwiti, 50, who taught at Mugae Primary School in Buuri, Kenya was convicted in June 2019 by Chief Magistrate Lucy Ambasi after he was found guilty of assaulting the girls aged between eight and 11 years on diverse between 2015 and 2016.

Yesterday, Mr Mwiti appeared before Justice Francis Gikonyo for mention of a bond application pending his appeal.

His lawyer told Justice Gikonyo that Mwiti’s application for release on bond had so far not been opposed by the State and that he had obeyed earlier bond terms of Sh1 million with one surety during the hearing of the case in the lower court.

Justice Gikonyo will give directions on the matter on December 9, 2019.
