Gender activists are today expected to hold a protest march against the Nsundwe sexual violence scandal which implicates police officers.

The activists include the NGO Gender Coordination Network, Women Lawyers Association of Malawi, Women Manifesto Movement and Women’s Legal Resources Centre.

Women and girls were allegedly sexually abused in Nsundwe, Mpingu and M’bwatalika in Lilongwe earlier this month.

The issue has since attracted widespread condemnation from both local and international activists.

On October 9 police officers raided Msundwe and surrounding areas to maintain peace and order following riots that erupted on October 8 as angry locals were against Peter Mutharika’s plans to hold a rally in the areas which resulted into the death of a police officer.
