President of United Transformation Movement (UTM) Saulos Chilima has said he is ready to hold talks with government and any interested stakeholders over halting the current political stalemate.

This has been said by Joseph Chidanti Malunga-Director of Publicity of UTM when he addressed members of the media in Lilongwe over the week.

According to Malunga, Chilima is ready to engage in any dialogue that would address the current political stalemate as long as the talks are done in good faith.

‘’Our party will be part of such talks if the aim is remains to unite the nation, ’’said Malunga.

There have been unending post elections demonstrations in the country with the Human Rights Defenders Coalition leading protests against the administration of the elections.

The protests planned as peaceful, have however turned violent with people looting, torching and assaulting police officers – a feat that has led to what critics dub as a heightened fallout between the men in uniform and civilians.

The UTM is also in court with the Malawi Congress Party seeking the nullification of the presidential poll that saw DPP’s Peter Mutharika win.

Calls for dialogue have intensified in the recent months with the quasi-religious grouping, Public Affairs Committee indicating that it had been talking to all concerned parties on the matter.

Previously, the civil society led by the HRDC met former President Bakili Muluzi whose apparent calls for dialogue only hit a snag on the end of the protesting civil society.
