A colon cancer patient won $200,000 on the lottery while traveling to hospital for his final chemotherapy treatment.
Ronnie Foster, of Pink Hill, North Carolina, scooped the jackpot on a Win It All scratch-off ticket, and claimed his prize Friday.
The retired transportation worker said: ‘I bought a $1 ticket and won $5. ‘I decided to trade it in for a $5 ticket. At the last second, I decided to buy two tickets instead of one.’
Foster said his first ticket was a dud – but that he was overcome with shock on realizing he’d won the maximum prize on the second one.
He recalled: ‘I saw all those zeroes and I froze. ‘I didn’t believe it until I gave it to the clerk at the counter to scan.
‘When it showed, “Go to lottery headquarters,” I started shaking. I couldn’t believe it.’ Foster’s win came to $141,501 after tax, with the winner now planning to spend some of the cash on his medical bills, and save the rest.
He explained: ‘I have good insurance. ‘But there is still some cost. This will make it a whole lot easier.’ The Win It All ticket was released last December, and is scheduled to end in November. Foster won its last top prize.
