Umodzi Party (UP) Director of Youth Pemphero Mphande has resigned from the Party to concentrate on his activism role.
Mphande resignation comes barely hours after he successful managed to hold a vigil in the capital Lilongwe protesting the erection of Mahatma Gandhi statue anywhere in the country.
Citizens for Progressive Action leader handed over the resignation letter on Sunday, November 3, 2019.
“As of today, I have submitted my resignation as the Director of Youth of Umodzi Party signaling my intention to quit politics indefinitely and focus on activism and philanthropy,” wrote Mphande on his official facebook page.
Mphande has been in the forfront protesting the construction of Mahatma Gandhi statue in the country and last year he obtained an injunction stopping the construction of the statue near Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
He argues that erecting the statue in the country will be insults to Malawians, saying Gandhi was a racist.
