As the rainy reason is fast approaching, Blantyre City Council (BCC) has warned residents in the city to desist from cultivating crops along road reserves.

BCC issued the warning in a statement released on Tuesday signed by its Public Relations Manager Anthony Kasunda made available to Faceofmalawi reporter.

“Blantyre City Council would like to remind the general public that cultivating of crops along the road reserve, riverine, hills and other fragile places are strictly forbidden by law.

“Blantyre City Council, as a responsible local authority, shall ensure that all pieces of registration are adhered to by the City residents,” reads in part the statement.

Last year Blantyre City Council slashed down maize crops planted along the Magalasi road. The development led to a fight between the council and the owners.

It took the intervention of the government to stop Blantyre City Council from slashing down the maize crops planted along the road.
