Following fears of hunger strike in the country, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has assured Malawians that he will make sure maize is available countrywide.
Mutharika said this during a public rally addressed in the eastern district of Balaka on Thursday.
In his Speech, Mutharika said Malawians should not get worried about maize availability in the country.
“I assure you Malawians that none of you will die of hunger, right now we have already started distributing maize and vice president Chimulirenji is the one in-charge of it,” said Mutharika
According to Mutharika, Maize and rice will first be distributed in 15 districts of the country.
Mutharika also bemoaned the acts of violence happening in the country saying they are destroying Malawi.
“I urge you Malawians, Opposition leaders, please let’s unite and build Malawi together if we are to move forward. We should stop fighting and hurting one another, we should love one another,” said Mutharika.
Mutharika further said that his government has aligned some investments like construction of airport in Mangochi, community colleges in different places and construction of roads in many parts of the country.
