First witness for President Peter Mutharika, the first respondent in the on-going polls case, Ben Phiri has admittedthat some of the results that were announced by Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) were rejected by Auditors.

Phiri admitted today as Chikosa Silungwe a senior council for the first petitioner Saulos Chilima has started cross examining him.

According to Phiri, who is the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development when auditors rejected the results, the electoral body directed that they be approved if the documents had signatures of presiding officers.

Testifying in the constitutional court Phiri also acknowledged the use of tippex, duplicates and altered result sheets in the May 21 polls.

apparently the case has been adjourned to November 25.
