Authorities in Dowa district have asked government to suspend illegal mining activities that are currently taking place in the district until proper procedures are followed.
The development comes as reports say there are several sites where mining activities are being done by different investors behind the scene in the district.
Chairperson for Dowa District Council Martin Luka Phiri said they have made the decision to stop any illegal mining in the district.
Phiri claimed that out of the 13 companies involved in mining activities in the district, the DC’s Office only recognizes 3.
And on his part Regional Geologist in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining, Samuel Sakhuta promised to report the issue to responsible authorities.
