Police in Thyolo have arrested a 39-year-old woman who hails from Musowa village, T/A Nchiramwera for dumping a newly born baby in a toilet.
Thyolo police station deputy public relations officer, Sergeant Rabecca Kashoti confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Mary Fashion.
Kashoti said on 15th November 2019, some elderly women got suspicious of the disappearance of suspect’s pregnancy and reported the matter to the village head who later confronted her about the pregnancy.
“In her defence, she said that the baby accidentally fell into the pit latrine. After the chief informed the police, Mary Fashion was arrested and the Thyolo CID personnel’s visited the scene of crime and found the baby already dead after they demolished the toilet, said Kashoti.
Mary was taken to Thyolo district hospital for medical examination and indeed the results were positive.
She is expected to appear in court soon.
