KENYA – A 17-year-old boy committed suicide in Kyeleni Matungulu sub-county of Machakos county in Kenya after getting ‘low’ marks.
Confirming the incident Matungulu sub-county police commander Joel Kipkemoi Kirui noted that the boy was dissatisfied after getting his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education results on Monday.
He told this writer on phone that the boy went missing only for his body to be found hanging from a tree near their home.
He said the boy had scored 282 marks yet he had been aiming for over 300 marks.
“He got 282 marks not 170 as other people are claiming. However according to his parents, he was hoping to get something like 300 or 400 and when he got the results he tensed,” said Kirui.
“He went missing from that time, no one saw him until today when his body was discovered hanging from a tree. a few meters from their home” added Kirui.
The police boss urged parents to encourage their kids despite their results in the exam to avert such cases.
The body of the boy was moved to Donyo Sabuk nursing home mortuary for preservation awaiting burial.
