Police in Zomba have arrested two men for allegedly trafficking over five people to Lilongwe after duping them some cash.
Zomba Police Deputy public relations officer, Sergeant Patrick Mseko has identified the two as Idrissa Kumtendere aged 25 and Gerald Muonjezza, 24.
The two were arrested after their victims lodged a complaint to police. One of the victims, 25-year-old Ndaziona Namputa told the police that the suspects approached her with some of her friends and asked them to join them to Lilongwe so they can help them find employment.
The suspects asked them to pay K40.000 each saying it was meant for processing their employment deals.
“After seeing the suspects kept on changing tunes, Ndaziona reported the matter to Zomba police and an investigation was instituted which finally led to the arrest of the two on November, 18 2029 in Lilongwe. Police also rescued other victims who were dumped in a rented house in Lilongwe, “explained the deputy PRO.
The two of the rescued victims are girls.
The suspects have since been charged with the offence of trafficking in persons contrary to section 14 of Trafficking in Persons Act, and theft by trick contrary to section 321 of the penal code.
Idrissa hails from Bwana village, T/A Kumtumanje while Muonjeza hails from Samani village, T/A Mkagula – both in Zomba district.
