SOUTH AFRICA – A video has been circulating on social media showing a group of women carrying the body of their dead relative into an Old Mutual branch.
The drastic action was supposedly because Old Mutual failed to pay out the deceased’s funeral claim. The footage has caused uproar in Mzansi and some have called for the boycott of the company.
The video was shared on various platforms by different social media users. One such user was Confession White, who posted the caption.

Therazor5 said Old Mutual has since responded and said that the claim has been processed and payments have been made. Their statement read: “Good evening, this has been most unsettling and we are sympathetic towards the family during this difficult time. We can confirm that the claim was paid. Due to the sensitive nature of this matter, we will continue engaging directly with the family.” Social media users were outraged by the footage and by the company’s initial failure to pay.
Twitter user HBMZulu said: “I am traumatised by this. Must have taken a lot for this family to do this with their dead.” VisionNative said: “@OldMutualSA never pay black people’s claims. I have been screening at the top of my lungs for the past weeks of a policy they refuse to pay. This is a 33-year-old policy.”
