A government official from The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has been arrested for allegedly misuse public money amounting to K5 million from Mwanza District Council.
The suspect identified as Hannah Gonani is currently under police custody waiting for her appearance in court to answer charges related to mismanagement of public money.
According to the statement issued by the ministry, Gonani connived with a hospital administrator at Zomba Mental Hospital to forge signatures on council cheques.
In the statement, the ministry continued that the arrest of Gonani is part of a crackdown on corruption in abuse of public money in councils.
